Default 2014 Sonic Normal operating tempature

I just got a 2014 Sonic from my neighbor back in October. The car overheated on her and the passenger compartment filled up with antifreeze. She took it to a dealer. He wanted to replace the whole engine. She said she would rather just junk the car. She then took it to someone else. They replaced all the hoses and refilled it. It overheated again. This was August 2021 in PA, we get hot summers. Car sat for a year She was going to junk the car and I offered to buy it. I got the car in October. Looked it over and didn't see anything wrong. I drove the car locally a few times but probably not enough to get the temperature up to the operating level. I got a odb-II blue tooth reader and hooked it to my phone and I am using the Torque app. The temperature seems to hover around 218 to 226. It has peaked at 230. It is now winter and below freezing although since it reached 230, I don't think the outside temp is preventing it from overheating. I have seen the temp go up and down and stay inside that range all the time after it runs a little bit. I THINK that after it starts it goes to 230 once and then drops back down into the range. I did not see the temp gauge at 230. This range seems high to me and I am not sure if it is normal for this car or not. Also I am not sure if the winter is keeping the car cool enough to not overheat and I might run into issues in summer. At this point I am just trying to determine if the car is running hot. Thanks.

Thanks for the offer but you live several hundred miles away. After driving it all winter and watching the temp. It never goes above 229 now I would assume it would still overheat in winter since it gets that hot. I also found out my thermostat is a 221 so I feel a lot better now. I just remember growing up I was always told that if it goes about 220 your car is done. It runs on Dexcool which is designed to run hotter. After listening to the story again and seeing the car, I think the hose to the heater core blew out and caused the issue and not overheating.
