I have a 2008 Aveo.

I have my check engine light on, code is P0571 - brake switch circuit.

This is what happens: I have the car in park and try to shift to gear (while pushing the brakes), but the handle is stuck. It does not move.
I had to access the shift lock release to make it go in gear.

The problem is not continously showing up, it comes and goes.
My brake lights work fine.

I think it is a brake switch that is malfunctioning. Have someone had the same issue?
Any suggestion of how to fix it or locate the bad component?
