Default fuel economy

Hi there we have a 2004 base model with AC. We bought the car for the
fuel economy and well it sucks. We have only 9000km on it and we are
only getting 33mpg (highway). Chevy was advertising 46mpg (highway). Do
we have any hope of getting close to that? I am sure there is a break
in period but we should have been getting better than that right off
the start I thought. I have a 99 Intrepid that gets 33-36mpg at
120km/hr with the air on.

I think the mileage estimates are done on a static dyno, ignoring road conditions and air resistance. There are revisions in the works. I get about 35 hiway and I'm OK with that.

So far, I only have ~2800 miles on mine, and I'm averaging 34.5 mpg with mine. The mileage does seem to be coming up a bit as the engie wears in. As for beating your intrepid, I wouldn't hold your breath. The reality is that the Korean cars do not get the mileage that you would expect out of them, given their size and engine displacements. You are going to have to drive the car quite carefully to get your 46 imperial mpg. I'm running around at 55 mph in mine, and really driving with a light foot to be getting the US EPA regs out of mine (35 hwy).

I still have the 'sell sheet' that was posted on the car saying 46 mpg on the highway. i'm at 9000 km and so far i've hit the 33mpg....it's a complete lie and bs.

Car was NEVER posted with 46 mpg. It is IMPOSSIBLE! DUH! I own a 2006 and get inbetween 30-35 mpg and the car could never have got 46 mpg its impossible and for one the car was never posted with that mileage rating. You must have been reading the sheet for a VW or somethin.

Read: The Chevrolet Aveo offers a lot for not much money. The frame structure has been designed with safety in mind. The engine offers zippy acceleration and delivers an estimated 27/39 miles per gallon, according to Chevrolet, with the manual transmission. The cabin is quiet and there's good room in the rear seats. If all you want to spend is $10,000 or $12,000 for a new car and you don't need anything more than a small five-seater, it's hard to see how you could go wrong with the Chevy Aveo.

If you'll notice, sdsyver is Canadian and Canadian cars are rated in Canadian or Imperial gallons which are larger than a US gallon. They are in fact rated at 45 miles per CANADIAN gallon which translates to about 35 miles per US gallon. It's possible he/she is not calculating their MPG correctly. 1 Imperial gallon=1.5 US gallons .In other word it takes 1.5 of your gallons to make 1 of ours, that's if we still bought gas in gallons up here. We buy it in litres and that's a whole different ballgame. 4.5 L per Imperial gallon or approximatel 4l per US gallon. On a trip to North Carolina we got closer to 40 miles per US gallon with our 05 which is actually a Pontiac Wave but the same car just the same. Just so ya know. Later

I just got back from a highway trip in my Aveo. I have a new high tank of 43.7 mpg. This was runnig a steady 55 mph, with a 30 mph tailwind. It's obviously not a typical number for the car, but I'll take it anyway. [8D]
