Default Fuel tank door won't open

Hi guys, my girlfriend recently bought a 2004 aveo and we recently noticed that the door to access the fuel tank cap isn't opening.

I tried searching for TSBs and other different keywords on this forum and google but I couldn't find an answer if that was a known issue or not.

If anybody has the service manual that shows how the release mechanism is assembled, I would really appreciate if they could send me a copy of this section.

I was able to access the steel wire that is normally releasing the lock but I can't release the lock even by pulling it manually with pliers. It's as if the lock itself is broken.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Dominic

Default RE: Fuel tank door won't open

Well, I had to break the door to be able to open it.

The lock is now fixed. I will go to the nearby GM dealer to get a new fuel door.

while im way late to post i did stumble on here with the same problem. i have 05 aveo. the day i bought the car i went to gas station and was like right.... any way i found out its not the cable its something with the door it self the cable was fine. i had someone else pull it while i watched the release in the door and it went down all the way just fine. its like the door is missing a spring to pop it past the release and when u let go of the cable it wont lock again. the only fix i have right now is i use little rag stuff in one edge of the door and then i pull the latch by the driver seat and it pops open the rag falls down... but yea thats only thing i have found to work so far
