Default Oil on spark plugs

My wife drives an 04 Aveo. The engine light came on, so I used my diagnostics computer on it. It gave me a code for misfiring. I changed the spark plugs and wires, and when I removed the spark plugs, all of them had oil on them. But after I changed them, the engine light went off. Does anyone know why oil might be on the spark plugs.

I was reading about it, and most people said the valve cover might be leaking. But on the Aveo the spark plugs are on top of the engine. I really don't know much about it though.

Thanks for any help.

Wet, oily deposits. Will cause weak spark and eventually misfire.Fault: worn bores/piston rings or valve guides; sometimes occurs (temporarily) during running-in period. Plugs can be re-used after a thorough cleaning. For Pictures.

On the outside of the Plug. Oil would be from a Leaking Gasket or Seal

this is just what i found, hope it will help in your quest for answers...good luck i have been there

I can see that people replying in this thread really haven't owned a 4 cylinder before.

Having wet oil on your threads when you remove plugs is from a little teeny bit of oil seeping into the spark plug tubes in the valve cover and thus when you remove the plug you get oil on the plug threads.

This is no way means there is oil in the cylinders at all and you are more than likely perfectly fine. The amount of oil in the tubes is almost nothing and not worth worrying about.

Drive on and enjoy.

Best to maybe stick to the V8 threads then.
