Default $8500 for a 2000 Suburban LT 1500 4x4 with 104K Miles?

Does that seem steep? I mean, everything is expensive in this area, so keep that in mind, but basically they will give me $8500 on trade in on my 07 Colorado which is pretty good. I've attached KBB (I think I selected similar options, can't see minor options making a big difference in price at this point), so maybe I could get it for a bit cheaper, but they seemed very proud of their price and kept going on about "non haggle pricing" at the dealership...

I test drove the Suburban briefly and it drove really great - much better than my Colorado.

I've owned three GMT400 based vehicles (2x 5.7 Vortec and 1x 5.7 TBI) and while I prefer the GMT400 looks I really do think the GMT800 rides better. Then again it's been a while since I owned a GMT400 and anything rides better than my crappy Colorado so maybe my standards are simply low now. My biggest problem with the GMT400 platform is if I get a GMT400 Tahoe/Yukon/Burb is the intake gaskets. They failed on my 96 Yukon and 98 K1500 Silverado (internally, which sucked) and were already leaking externally (no big deal, I ingored it) on my 95 Suburban. It seems like the new LS based 5.3 engines don't have that problem as often.

It did seem that steering and brakes are awesome on the 2000 Suburban - I've heard this is a major point of improvement in the GMT800 platform vs the GMT400 platform, and now I certainly to believe that.

I know the 4L60E isn't world's toughest trans but this Suburban only has 100K so even if it pukes at 150K I will still get some life out of it.

I would be interested to know what other people think of that Suburban and if I should trade in my Colorado on it. I want to trade in my Colorado because: it needs new tires, it's not comfortable, it's not practical for me (I'm in the tech business, so an open bed is not ideal for hauling computer stuff, and also the Colorado doesn't have any real seating space beyond the passenger seat, which sucks), and even though it's a slow four cylinder it only gets 15-17MPG so MPGs won't be much different in the Burb!

They are including a $150 gas card with the Suburban - I'll sure as heck need that

I would pay to take it to the shop I go to for an inspection. I want to make sure nothing is wrong with it.

Here's a link, and thank you in advance for your advice.

as long as the body is in good shape....doesn't look like a rust belt vehicle. the rims are pit free. i'd swap a Colorado for a sub any day.

offer less, never go full price on a used vehicle. they can only say no. know the blue book values for both vehicles before you negotiate.
haggle for a new radio ****. lol

definitely pay for an independent inspection by someone familiar with chevy trucks. I'm sure a 16yo chevy truck has some seal leaks. Toyota dealers don't know chevy trucks. they just want rid of it as no one goes to jap dealer to buy domestic.

My 2001 Burb is still going at 220k. I bought it back in 2005 with 85K, and it lead a very hard life. I sold it to my best friend two years ago, and the original engine and transmission still run great.

Brakes, fuel pump, a/c system and power windows are the big known issues. Check the bottom of the doors, on the inside, for rust, as well as the rear rocker panels directly in front of the rear wheels. If the fuel pump hasn't been replaced, it will likely be dying soon. You have to drop the tank to replace it, and a mechanic will likely charge around $700-$800 for the repair. Turn on the ignition, but don't start the engine. Listen for the telltale whine coming from the fuel pump. The whine means you're on borrowed time.

The truck is an absolute tank. If it's in good shape, it's a no-brainer to replace your Colorado. But the price is definitely a bit high. Use Autotrader - I'm sure you'll find other, more reasonably-priced trucks out there. Besides, it's not perfect - it's missing the tuning **** on the radio.

For somewhat of a comparison, I just purchased a 2005 Suburban Z71 with 245k miles for $7,000 OTD (including their $469 doc fee), it has every option you can get and it is in excellent condition. I put another $500 in rear brakes, temperature sending unit, plugs/wires, and miscellaneous minor cosmetic items.

They were originally asking $8,000 + taxes & fees which would have been roughly $9,000 OTD.

Thanks for the input guys. I don't care about the radio **** because the first thing I would do is put in a Pioneer bluetooth head unit I decided I don't want that burb as even at their new price of $7992 on their site, it's just more than I wanted to spend, that dealership has awful Yelp reviews, and the whole time I was there I just didn't like their vibe. I know that sounds dumb but initially I went in to inquire about a different 2000 Suburban that was like $5999 and that one mysteriously was "no where to be found"... smelled like bull**** to get me in the door - it's even still on their site!

What about this one?
2002 GMC Yukon XL Denali | San Rafael, California | California Motors

it seems nice. This is where I bought my Colorado so I know they are trustworthy. 6.0 Vortec

Do you know if am 02 Yukon Denali XL uses a 4L60E or 4L80E? How are the AWD systems? That's really the only thing I don't like about that Denali - I'd much rather have a traditional 4WD system than some fancy AWD stuff.
