Default *1998 GMC Suburban A/C HELP?*

Hey all, I have a 1998 GMC Suburban 1500 5.7L Auto 4x4. Having a little trouble with the A/C and am starting to think my best bet is to take it to a certified mechanic. So the AC compressor looks old and rusty but still kicks in and will cycle. Fan speed **** changes fine, all the climate controls work but no cold air. Bought a recharge kit and hooked it up to the lowside port. No dice still nothing. Then I happen to look under the passenger side frame and find that the rear AC lines have been cut! Further investigation shows where the previous owner hooked up a rubber hose to each end of the cut lines to what my guess would be recycle and prevent leaks. Its held on by two philips head hose clamps and it is kinked in the middle. Could this kink possibly be my problem? Or I am also thinking it could be a leak in that rubber hose or the clamps? Im at a loss right now, any suggestions would be appreciated. IF all else fails I will be taking it to a certified mechanic and biting the bullet and having it fixed.

I have heard of rear AC block off kits but I am not familiar on how they work. Has anyone used them and are they an easy install and most importantly, do they work! Thanks for any tips!
