Started my Suburban today and got a sudden engine tapping. This is not the typical cold engine tap. 135K miles. Tapping increases and decrease in unison to RPM. Noise sounds up high in engine. Valve issue? Oil pressure is good, does use a little bit of coolant. Did not go away as engine warmed up.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Try to get rough estimate of what to expect, repair and cost.

How does the oil look, is it brown or dark but clear or is it milky?

 

Sounds like it might be a stuck lifter. Does it get regular oil changes?

 

Also, is there enough oil in it?
