The hanlde/release for the back hatch on my 01 tahoe is broke, I can't open the hatch, I have access from the inside and through the window, but not the hacth. Anyone know how to remove this handle? Looks like you need to take the panel off inside which can't come off with the hatch shut and since I can't open it,........

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

You can (and will have to) remove the inside rear door trim panel to gain access to the latch mechanism, it is a bit tricky.
1. Remove the upper trim panel (window molding).
2. Slide the trim panel upward to disengage the mounting hooks.
3. Remove the trim panel from the rear door.

Once the panel is removed you can pull on the cable to release the door for better access.
