Default 04 Suburban AWD - Major Steering Problems - need help

When I turn either direction (even as slow as turning into my driveway), it feels like the steering locks up - almost as if I'm holding down the brake at the same time.

This problem started seemingly out of the blue after driving for about an hour on the highway, I pulled off to get gas and suddenly noticed that it was having trouble steering at low speeds and tight turns.

Because of the distance that I was from home, I drove home on the highway like that but very cautiously. Then driving around town roads and making turns I really felt the problem. Made it home ok but after doing some research I really can't figure this out.

Initial signs are leading me to believe there is a problem with the differential - almost like one side is locking up as I begin a turn.

Any help would be great. I'm trying to figure out if this is a repairable problem for me or if a mechanic or dealer needs to be in the loop. I suspect I will need a shop to repair this - but going in, I want to have a better idea of what to tell them.

Thanks.

No. It's an AWD vehicle with an inside switch that lets you go into 4WD-Lo by pushing the button while in neutral. I've tested this out a few times since the problem and I can hear the 4WD engage when I press the button in neutral and then disengage upon pressing again. It seems like the transfer case control and transfer case motor are working properly - as far as I can tell - when going into 4 Lo anyway.

Although the problem I'm having feels similar to making tight turns whilst in 4-Lo, it is more severe than that. I've experienced that before while trailering and although it's similar, it's not the same. It feels like all the wheels are locking up.
