07 Muffler questions
I was looking to put a new muffler on my tahoe, and im not sure what I would like to go with...Im between the Magnaflow and Flowmaster 50 series.
-Which one is louder? (Don't want it to be too loud, but want it to be noticable when im driving)
-What is the Magnaflow part# of name for the SUV?
-And what are the dimensions of the muffler (like inlet/outlet and inches for the piping)?
Thanks for the Help!

I bought a stainless steel (unpolished) magnaflow.. 2.75" in and out pipe diameters. I believe its centered on the inflow and offset on outflow. I also removed the resonator and had a magnaflow oval tip installed. All work was welded (no clamps). In my opinion, it is the right kind of loud (when you get on it) but does not sound like an old truck with glasspacks. The muffler I chose was oval the biggest one they offered. I think it was 28" x 5x 8
How about a pic of your current set-up. I want to get rid of the resonsator, more for looks than sound. How much difference did just removing the resonator make? If there are sound changes, is it during acceleration or at highways speeds?

I dont have any pics of my setup...I would post some pics up, but the camera is currently broken...but as far as the other questions go, it looks a whole lot better than the resonator sticking out the rear. Sound wise, Not a whole lot but it is a little more noticable. For me it seems like theres a little more rumble when easying on the accelorator usually between 1500 and 2500 rpms...on the highway, a very slight drone but that me listening for it w/ no radio on. Cant hear it on the highway when the radio is on. Also when you start up the car it sounds pretty good (with the remote start). No problem, hope this helps out. It cost me about $60 to remove it and get a tip and a little bit of new piping for it...but as for looks, it is so much better. Its worth every penny not to see that ugly resonator.
The resonator removed did not make any changes to the sound. Also, the larger magnaflows will not resonate (like it is said the flowmasters will). The purring is mostly when you get on it. Do not expect any performance or mileage gains as you will not experience any (contrary to what the website implies). Purely an aesthetic choice on the resonator removal and sound improvement on the muffler replacement.
So your saying even if i were to buy a new muffler, I would see no improvements in mileage or performance? I dont think thats right, cause there are gains for when people add in a new exhaust kit, and the only difference between a stock kit and the new performance kits out on the market is that the stock has a different muffler and has a resonator. Remove the resonator and add a new muffler, you have the exact same thing.

From what i hear the stock system is already fairly free flowing. Adding a muffler will not add any noticeable performance or mileage gains... I am sure if you put a totally new exhaust (ie. headers etc) then you would notice performance gains... Maybe ZX can chime in and give us his take on this..... I believe the Chevy pipes are 2.75" they are already stainless steel, and the muffler is fairly free flowing. If one reads the Magnaflow website it will tell you that increasing diameter and making a single exhaust into a dual exhaustcould hurt performance and not enhance it. I think the GM guys probably engineered the set up to provide the best performance and mileage it will give. My opinion is not based on any engineering or skills just my personal experience....it is 99% about sound.
Yeah, I agree with that....free flowing with the exception of the resonator....headers are a whole different story...i should have said cat back exhaust systems...no im sticking with just the single side swept tip...as far as the stock flowing as well as a new cat back i think it does if the resonator is removed. Simply installing a new muffler is more sound than anything, and maybe partial gains, but nothing extremely noticable.
