07 Tahoe Nav Lock-up
Guys,
I'm new to this forum and have a 2007 Tahoe LTZ with the optional factory Denso nav radio.
Here are the problems that I am experiencing with the nav radio:
A few days ago the wife said she nor my daughter could get the nav radio to even come on. When they got home I tried it (after a ignition key cycle) and all worked fine...for about a week...
Yesterday while driving back from Thanksgiving vacation, the nav seemed to develop a mind of its own. It did the following:
1) First the DVD started playing on the front display while the car was in drive (moving).
2) Secondly the steering wheel controls would not operate the radio, nor allow voice prompt Onstar. (OnStar wouldn't work from the mirror controls either).
3) Third, I tried switching to XM and the radio said "XM not presently available due to communication failure"...or something to that affect (the XM icon didn't even show up on the nav audio selections - yes, I still have XM service for the next 10 months).
4) Could not shut the unit down after the ignition switch was turned off. Off button on radio would not work. Opened driver's door several times and finally got it to shutdown somehow??? Not sure what finally worked to kill it.
After this, and an ignition key cycle, all seemed back to normal with no other problems since then (it's only been a day).
This thing has seemingly developed a mind of its own.
Anyone else experienced this with the factory Denso nav unit installed in the '07 Tahoe?
Do I have a bad apple here and need to get it replaced under warranty, is this normal or what? Should I live with it for a while since it seems to "reset" iself? I sure as heck want it fixed prior to warranty ever running out on it.
Could it be something to do with the truck's BCM and not the nav unit itself? Thoughts?
Thanks for your help in advance.

PS: Love this truck, but these recent $2,000 nav unit problems are somewhat concerning to me.

Mine did the exact same thing about two or three weeks ago. I took it in while it was doing it and the dealer called their help line but was told not enought info and it only happened once so they did not want to do any repair yet, I guess they want it to fail completely
I lost everything connected to the radio (radio, nav, rear camera, chimes, turn signal chime, etc). Tried recycling ignition a couple of times to no avail. Drove to work and that nite when I got in, everything was back to normal. Kind of scary.
Drove the hoe to the Stars game on Friday night, we left the house and had no XM - said there was a communication error. Then, got to the game, shut the truck off, opened the door and the radio didn't turn off. I shut the door, restarted the truck and the radio wouldn't come on...pressed the power button and nothing. We just left for the game, came back afterwards, started it up and we had everything back to normal. Haven't seen the problem since. I do have the DVD overide installed and my wife thinks that is the problem. We also get a whine once in a while when going over the road humps and it either goes away or we go over more humps to knock it out. Only during accelleration like your radio isn't grounded correctly. Anyone else??
I have an 07 LTZ and mine has done everything you describe. When mine is "posessed" it loses XM and On-Star and switches to some random FM station with the volume full blast. None of the radio or steering wheel controls work. I have to turn of the engine and open the door to get it to stop. I took mine into the dealer here in Cincinnati and they replaced the entire nav/radio unit. About two weeks after that the replacement did the exact same thing. I have sent them the original post on this subject so that they can share with the techinician. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything. For now, I'm sitting tight until they figure this out.
We have been seeing an issue on occasion with a few GMT900 vehicles were the serial data bus goes to sleep for a second or longer, when this happens communication with several components is lost, some of those components can recover immediately while others (like the radio) have to go thru a re-boot / re-acquire process, there should be an updated calibration for the software in the Body Control Module available soon to address this issue, the problem is not in the head unit.

Great info...
So...a re-programming of the BCM with a GM Tech 2 is all that is required?
...If so, this is very good news and will keep several of our dashes from being destroyed during removal and replacement of head units.
When can we expect the updated BCM software to be available to dealers? Is there a TSB related to this?
