Default 07 Tahoe Z71 Ride Quality?

How is the ride quality of the Z71 package on the new Tahoe.
Is it much rougher than the standard soft ride?
I really like some of the features including the elevated facia but am worried about the road use ride.

When I was looking for a LTZ I went to a local dealer that only had a Z71 on the lot that I could test drive. WhenI tookthe test drive inthe Z71 I wasn't impressed at all. I never drove a LTZ befor getting in the Z71 and I almost didn't buy the LTZ because I wasn't impressed with the Z71. I said to the salesman for a $57,000 truck it rides like a Ford Explorer. He then found a LTZ for me to test ride and I bought it.

Not being a s.a., but how does an Explorer ride?

What is it that you didn't like about the Z71?

An Explorer rides more like a work truck.

The Z71 rode like that. You could feel the road under you and hear the noise too.

In my LTZ you would think you were in a Lincoln Town Car with the air bags (ride, not safety). In the LTZ you don't feel or hear the road.

Could some of the road feedback have been due to the M&S tires rather than the suspension?

I answered you on the Tahoeforum also. I drove them both back to back and in my opinion the difference wasn;t a big enough deal for me to go with an LTZ. I kept an LTZ for a few hours but couldn't get past the fake wood interior versus the brushed aluminum look of the Z71. Sitting inside a Z71 and an LTZmade up my mind. Recent trip from Ohio to Fla and back was pure comfort and I only saw three Z's on the road the whole time and about 70-80 LTZ's. Still like the LTZ but in my opinion no comparison in the look coming down the road. Not biased either

What bothers me alot about the standard LTs is the low facia; it's only 7 1/2" above the ground.
We sometimes drive the sand-tracks on the beach and I am sure that the tire ruts would come close to making the bottom of the facia a plow.

I really like the wheels and step bars on the Z71 and the locker is thrown in to boot.
I'm scratching my head though wondering where the front license plate goes on the Z71; our state requires them and it's a finable infraction.

Our intended use is primarily travelling, so the comfort is a concern too.
Thanks for the feedback.

Snap50, sounds like you will take the Tahoe offroad and the Z71 package will be a better fit. I drove both and yes the LTZ is better suited for the highway. The LTZ has road tires for a more quiet ride and the shocks seems liketheyhave alittle more dampening.

For me, I really like the firmer suspension and offroad tires (although I will probably gets some BFGs). I do take the truck offroad and I was impressed with the ride quality over rocky and washboard trails. Also, the automatic locking rear diff is sweet! I agree with Cutch, I prefer the interior/exterior of the Z71. Both the LTZ and Z71 packages are nice; however, I like the more rugged appearance and useable offroad equipment.

My state requires a front plate and my Tahoe came from a dealer in Pa which doesn't. The dealer ordered me a special bracket from GM.
