Default 08' 5.3L suburban motor swap to 13' 5.3L

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and would like to document my motor swap for my 2008 suburban, it has a dead 5.3L LC9 with 198K miles on it ( a lifter is knocking. ) I have located and purchased a 2013 5.3L LC9 from a Silverado 1500 with 67K miles for $1700. The new motor is only the block, crank and head. My plan is to swap out the two motors and get a few more mile out of the car.

I know there are some modifications that will need to be done but unsure of exactly what. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate help!

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum...
Most likely the 08 died of AFM lifter failure....
You can get AFM rebuild kits for about $500 and a new cam for about $200 as an option....both can be found on Amazon for more info....
If you are only doing the items you listed I suspect the swap should be completely transparent as no electronics should be impacted, do make sure the newer engine is not the VVT as that will be different...

Has any attempt been made to unstick the collapsed lifter? Has the head been pulled to examine the lifter and camshaft lobe surface?

I have never considered doing that; but rather just install new lifters. I never opened an afm lifter up. How do you unstick it?
