Default 08 Yukon vibrating

My 08 Yukon is vibrating only when braking down hill. took it to the dealer and they said nothing is wrong with the breaks or rotors and that it is my front tires that are worn on the inside. They now want to charge me $100 for looking it over. My question is can worn tires cause a vehicle to vibrate only when braking downhill?

You need to take care of the tire problem and cause of the tires wearing on the inside. ie: aligment, camber, toe in and go from there.

I'm taking it in for tires and an alignment, but should I owe them $100. I just don't see how the tires would create this scenario.

Anything that happens when braking is a brake problem. $100.00 is pretty high. What did they do for the money? Did the measure the run out on the rotors? Yes it may need tires but that is most likely not the problem. If they earned $100.00 then you owe it but they need to prove they earned it. At my work it is $19.99 for a brake check and 19.99 for a suspension check, that is about all they did, maybe.

They checked the brakes and the rotors. They told me that since the problem is not something covered by the warranty, that is why I am being charged. I think they just couldn't figure out what the problem is and are using the tire excuse to bill me.

$100.00 for a brake check is outrageous. Ask they for the measurements on all 4 rotors. They measurement for all pads. And how much run out was measured on each rotor with a dial indicator. If they can not give you results then I would not pay s**t. I would be willing to bet they did not measure the run out. That $100.00 charge is like being robbed without a gun and with a smile. Also they most likely spent less then 15 min looking at your truck. If they had measured the run out it would be less than 30 min. You should call another dealer and ask them how they charge for a brake check.

Just picked up the Yukon, and they were charging me $50 for labor. I told them they hadn't diagnosed the problem since I wasn't buying the tire story. The service writer asked his manager and he concurred that it couldn't be the tires. The service manager said that it had to be the rotors but that those aren't covered under warranty. I ended up not paying anything but I guess I have to replace my rotors.

You should be able to pick up new rotors and pads for less then $150, I wouldn't bother having the old ones turned unless you just want to keep them on hand as spares....

That shows that the tech and the service writer are both idiots, they do not understand they dynamics of a automoblie. People think the dealer is the best place to go but really most (not all) are glorified parts changers. Dealer techs are some of the lowest paid in the industry, so most good techs work elsewhere.

jv9908: Welcome to the forum.

While the pads wouldn't be covered by the warranty, the rotors certainly should unless specifically excluded. Could even argue that they fall under the 5/100K drivetrain warranty.
