Default 17" or 20" wheels and Autoride Question

Hi gang,

Its time to replace my '05 Tahoe LT with a new one and I'm curious to your feedback between 17" wheels in the LT and 20" wheels. I'm going after the smoothest ride possible.

I can also order the Autoride suspersion with an LT and 17" wheels in Canada but I'm not sure its worth it.

Thank you in advance !

Welcome to the forum.

Since the tires on the 17s have a taller profile, the ride should be a little softer, especially w/ the Autoride.

If it is a smooth ride you are looking for then the 17s are what you want. I had the OEM 17s on my Burb and switched to OEM 20's. The 20s ride rougher and are louder. They are also more expensive to replace tires. Basically you gain the styling from the 20s and that is it. I have no experience with the Auto ride so I can't comment. I would doubt you'd find it necessary on a truck with 17s though.

Thanks guys !
Consumer Guide also seems to prefer the 17"s.
Now my next struggle is to get the dealer to add the LTZ chrome door inserts into an LT with 17" wheels as I find the chrome touches of the LTZ very appealing.

Thanks again !

Are you talking about the chrome exterior door handles? If so, you can get those and many other chrome pieces on the internet, starting with ebay. I wouldn't pay the dealer price for any of that stuff since it is marked sky high.

The ones I want are the chrome inserts for the door modules. In the LT the door moldings are color coded the Tahoe. The LTZ moldings are still color coded, but they also have a chrome insert.

One dealer mentioned that the LT can be ordered with the chrome insert door moldings. He could bring in the moldings, paint them to match the Tahoe and have them installed. Cost would be $ 250.00/door.

Only the early 2007 LTZs came w/ body colored door handles. Since they have chrome handles and the area behind them is also chrome.

Don't understand why the dealer would want to get chrome moldings and then paint them body color.
