1988 Suburban 350 4x4. Trans has no forward or reverse gears. Nominal amount of copper/brass shavings in pan. Grinds when put into park. Is there a possible fix without pulling the trans or do these symptoms indicate a rebuild? I assume this has a 700 R4. Thanks in advance.

 

Sounds like rebuild time to me. Be a good time to upgrade your 700R4 (or it may be a TH400?) to the newer sprage assemblies for greater strength...but it has lasted this long, I think it did good! How many miles on it?

Several things it could be. Best to just open it up; my guess is bands or seals, or both. How did it die? Did it go slow, or sudden?
