Default 1995 2wd Tahoe....clunking on take off ?

It seems if you stop real hard at a light, and or take off real hard...you'll feel a clunk when you take off. It doesn't do it every time but frequently enough. I've read other bulletins about this and they say to lube the splines in the drive shaft, but this is not a small clunk, it feels like something is loose. It sounds crazy but it feels like the rear end is shifting? The rear end is fine..just serviced and inspected...and I've crawled under and looked everything over for signs of something loose...but found nothing. Anyone have this same problem?

Thanks,

Ryan

Ryan,
How many miles on the Tahoe?
Have you inspected the u-joints?

If it were my vehicle I would replace both u-joints (they are inexpensive) and while I was at it I would grease the slip-yoke splines and I'll bet you the clunk goes away, you'd be surprised how much slack a coating of grease takes up on a splined shaft.

Make sure all you the rear-end hardware is tight (shackle bolts, leaf spring to axle u-bolts and shock mounts) Make sure your spare tire is winched up tight.

If none of these are the culprit then it is likely either a worn out slip yoke or the rear-end needs some work.

Sounds like the U-Joint(s) are bad.
