Default 4wd

if you can't find your owners manual, I assume.

you can find it online by signing up for the GM owners section

http://www.gm.com/gmownercenter/gm/

there should be a pdf of the manual for free...

Here is the way that I do it,
Put it in neutral on flat ground and firmly shift to 4 low, do the same coming out of low.

Wink yea

I like to rev it to redline in N, then drop it in D

the manual is the 100% best place to find info. Follow it! they didn't write it for their health. I sold my 1995 Tahoe with 285,000 on the original engine + tranny...

OK, I did post verbatim out of the manual in another post but I don't want to do it again. It will tell you to keep it in drive and slow to 2 or 3 miles an hour and then shift into low.
I went through one trans, changed the motor at 265,000 and it was still running strong, and never changed the transfer case. I still have mine and abuse the heck out of it mud bog racing, 277,000 on it now. I know how to shift the transfer case.
