1997 Suburban No Defrost Air Flow
I have a 1997 Suburban K1500 with a defrost issue. I can change all the fan speeds ok, Low to Hi. I can change the temp ok, Full cold to full hot. But when I turn the dial to change the Face/Feet/Defrost (Flow Control) it is stuck on feet (Not stuck on Defrost like some said that it would "default" to). The AC button does not light up anymore, and the re-circ air botton doesnt work either. I think there was a short somewhere. I took it all apart and found out that the control module had 2 burnt areas on the pc board. (what caused the short you ask? Probably Me, when I was installing my new radio....DOH!!!
) I bypassed the burnt area, and I soldered a jumper wire to the wire loom and I got the temp to change, but the flow switch is still not working. I have tested the Actuator motor down on the box for movement and voltage and it seems to be working but really...reeeealy slow. The plug to the Actuator motor Has a hot of 14V and a variable of 6-8V when I turn the flow control dial (Which tells me that the switch is still OK. I checked all the fuses in both boxes. All OK. Rear Climate controls work fine. So what could it be? Could the Actuator motor (that controls the flap inside the heater box for direction control) be only 1/2 burnt out? Since it only works a little bit, and is very weak, Im thinking that its only partly fried? Or am I way off on my guess?
