Default 1998 Suburban starting issues

Went to start my Suburban after replacing my window switch. Engine starts then dies. Did this several times. Put a fuel press gauge on and have around 54 psi. Holds steady with key on and off. What is the fuel press minimum for this truck ? It's a 5.7 engine. Thanks!

Good morning. I would look at the in tank pump. here's why: for your 1998 Suburban with the 5.7L Vortec engine (L31), the required fuel pressure is 60-66 PSI. Your reading of 54 PSI is too low and is almost certainly the cause of your problem.

I was having the same problem and realized that my 27 year old in-tank fuel pump was not quite up to par. Obtained a new one (1A Auto is my dealer of choice for most of my parts). Pump was under $60 and the labor was the killer. I'm a disabled Vet so I don't turn too many wrenches anymore so DIY was out of the question.

Good luck, hope this helps and happy trails!
