Default 1999 K1500 Steering Box Adjustment

Anyone have input on how to adjust the play in the steering box? I bought this '99 2 month ago and the guy showed me receipts of the new steering box install along with the idler arm. It still has a far amount of play. I have been told that you can adjust the tightness in the boxes. Anyone know of this and how to go about it? Thanks.

No one has any input on this? Surely someone has adjusted theirs?

Look on the steering box, you will see a set scew with a lock nut. Depending on the wear in the box depends on how much you will have to increase the end play. I'd check the grease level in it first.

If you do adjust the screw on the top of the box, ensure the steering gear, not necessarily the steering wheel, is in the dead ahead position as the internal sector gear has a high point at dead center to maintain tightness when going straight down the road. Otherwise you'll get it too tite and lockup the box.

Yikes!! yeah, I have heard this. I am going to tackle today when the drizzle lets up. Good times. i am also going to replace the EVO sensor. Apparently that is a big culprit in steering slop and drift.
