Default 1999 Tahoe Several Fixes

Hello all,

I wanted to list a few problems with my 1999 Tahoe to see if anyone has any experience or knowledge fixing them.

Rear A/C not working at all. You can hear the AC click in response to turning the **** switches for rear AC control. The 50A blower fuse will burn out every time you put it in to even try to use the AC, in the back.

The front AC won’t blow past setting 3. Setting 4 won’t work and there will be no more air blowing. I believed it is connected to a different circuit, likely even the 50A Blower circuit.

Central locking only works on drivers side door and rear door.

Passenger electric window rarely allows the passenger to control the window up and down.

Best to sell it rather then repair it, IMO.

Car drives really well overall. 150,000 miles on it and I really like it! So I’m nowhere close to thinking on selling it. Also my investment to purchase the vehicle is lower than you may be able to imagine. So cost to repair these non necessary items isn’t a huge concern, within reason.

I’m certain there’s reasonably priced solutions to most of these problems. I’m hoping someone on here has a little insight I don’t have myself please.

At 21 years old, your A/C compressor might need a new/rebuilt one. Have you checked out the pressures with an A/C gauge set yet?

I haven’t done a pressure test. I don’t actually own any of that equipment. Autozone rent them out?

I have had my 99 suburban since 2002.I replaced the front blower switch 3 times before I finally replaced the blower resister, which seems to have fixed the problem. The resistor is behind the glove box on top of the air box.It is kind of a pain to get in and out.The old one didn't look damaged or burned but was bad anyway.I haven't had any problems with the rear blower and I don't know if it has it's own resistor, but I would bet it does.I would replace the blower resistor first.

Thank you!

So the blower resistor you changed was for the front AC only?

what did that fix for you exactly?

Tried changing the blower motor relay. Definitely not that, AC behaves the same.

possibly the Resistor then I’m thinking.

One question I did have was, does the High setting, require the 50 Amp blower fuse?

My rear a/c blower has always operated normal, even when the front blower didn't work.I think the resistor in the air box was causing the front blower switch to burn out.The 50 amp fuse in the engine compartment never blew on mine.I would bet there is a rear blower resistor back there somewhere. That being said, your rear blower motor may be shorted out causing that 50 amp fuse to blow.

Good day,

I realize it’s been a hot minute since this discussion, but this the closest thing I have found to my problem. My rear ac fuse keeps blowing in my 99 Tahoe. Not immediately as yours does, but after a few minutes. Did you find a fix for yours? Thanks

only the little 10amp fuse in the cab blows. Not the 50amp in the engine bay
