Apparently my Suburban with the 8.1 engine needs a cam shaft sensor. My mechanic told me the part is obsolete with no aftermarket options available. Any ideas??? The truck only has 103K on it and I planned on living a much longer life together....My mechanic says sell...help...

 

IDK but that sounds like bs to me! Go to your local parts store and ask for a cam shaft position sensor and see what they say...

 

It's apparently true. It looks like your only option is to replace the cam gearset, so you can use the '02+ part. The gears are different, so the '02+ part doesn't work on '01s.
