Default 2001 Suburban A/C Clutch

I am thinking of replacing the clutch or compressor w/clutch on my 01 suburban but i think it may just need the clutch replaced. The reason i'm thinking of replacing both is b/c of the price difference. I can get just a clutch for about $190 or both compressor with clutch for about $270. It has been snapping belts i replaced the belt tensionor but it still snaps belts. When the belt is on the AC works fine, but i hear there is a common problem with the clutch that snaps belts. I hear that replacing both the compressor and clutch maybe be a pain, but b/c of the cheap price difference, should I replace both?

Thanks for your reply
Scott

i know you don't want to hear this but I think you should take it to a shop, for one A/C work is not something to be done in a driveway (not properly atleast) and for 2 it doesn't sound like you know exactly whats going on so instead of wasting time and money changing parts you could get an actual diagnosis
