Default 2001 suburban transmission issue

Had this damn thing for less than 2 months but last Monday it started slipping a bit and by time I got it home it was revving in 3rd gear then after letting off gas it would go in gear but its REAL sluggish and then it doesn't want to shift to 4th its like its stuck. I checked trans fluid and its real dark. Gonna take it next week to shop to get it checked out HOPING its the filter needs replaced and trans fluid replaced. It also whines when I come to a stop and when I take off...today took it to the store real quick and white smoke came out of the exhaust....doesn't act like the last transmission I had go out which happened over a month long period of time and was grinding...this doesn't do that.

sounds like multiple issues, if the trans is whining and already having issues shifting its unlikely the filter/fluid change will improve anything and the white smoke could be vapor or coolant depending if it goes away or not

That sounds bad. White smoke is coolant getting into one or more of the cylinders. Separate issue from your transmission woes. Bad head gasket or cracked block are the most likely culprits.

Sounds like the clutches may be going/gone in the tranny.

my 04 suburban 4x4 1500 would do that too, come to find out it was my dirty "mass airflow sensor". take it out spray mass air flow cleaner, let it dry and vroom, hitting all gears now, especially up freeway hills without hesitation. toyota sienna van did it too and cleaned the same way. good luck.
