Default 2002 Suburban coolant sensor

My 2002 Burb is giving me a P0118 code which is a Engine Coolant Temp sensor-High Input code . I've replaced the sensor 3 times with no luck. My temp gauge on the dash also doesn't read anything. All the sensor I've purchased have been from either Napa, Advance Auto, or Amazon, if that matters. I've visually checked the 2 wire connector for breaks or cuts and it looks fine and neither of the wires move forward or backward in the plastic housing. A friend mentioned today that it just might need a factory sensor from chevy. I've checked the 2 wires coming in with a basic light tester to the battery ground with the car running and get no power to either side. Any ideas would help.

One will be the power supply to it, the other return. Are you testing for power t the connection, with it clean? It could be needing the contact cleaned.

Hey Kevin you were spot on. A couple quick squirks of mass air flow sensor in the plug with about 5-6 plug in plug out and it works now. Thanks
