2002 Suburban Transfer/4X4 Problems
Help!. It's about to snow more and a 2x4 at my house is no more than a lawn ornament!
My Suburban is an 02, 1500 4x4, 5.3 L, auto, with push button transfer case controls. I have verified the front axle solenoid is engaging.
The car has about 250K and the complete case was replaced by the previous owner about 80k ago. The switches on the dash all seemed to work and will change from high to low range. There just isn't any drive getting to the front wheels.
I understand there are clutch plates in the transfer case for the front drive. I also know the transfer encoding motor applies a pre-determined amount of force on the clutch pack arm.
I changed the encoder motor, thinking maybe there was not enough pressure being applied to the clutch pack. With the new encoder in place it will not shift to 4 high at all. All other functions still work, but still now drive to the front wheels in auto or 4 low.
I figured I'd replace the encoder if I rebuilt the transfer anyway but this problem now seems odd. I figured with a new encoder and still no 4x4 the clutch plates were bad.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Went ahead and disassembled the transfer case. The bearing assy for the clutch pack was seized and the fork damaged. Replaced the clutch pack assy, bearing, fork, etc.Works great.
Thanks
Thanks
I have a 2002 4x4 chevy tahoe that has had the encoder replaced due to getting stuck in 4x4 and will not go back into 2 wheel drive. Thought we had a bad encoder so it was replaced again and the same thing happened.
