I have a 2002 Tahoe LT 4x4 Autoride.
The shocks are getting bad and need to be replaced.
I want to convert to standard shocks instead of the autoride shocks.
I have a couple of kits to convert with, but I don't know which suspension system I have(Z55/Z71...or something else). How would I find out?

Do I need to use one of the kits or can I just put regular shocks on and they will work?

I have been looking at this kit since I can get it locally Monroe 90012 - Strut Conversion | O'Reilly Auto Parts

My 2002 Tahoe with autoride just started riding really loose. Not sure if it is the autoride feature or just bad shocks. It has 115,000 miles and not sure if the autoride function ever worked since I bought it, 10,000 miles ago. I am pulling a horse trailer and the sway is really bad all of a sudden. Not interested in the auto ride, per say, just want the tight ride back!! Afraid to take it to the dealership for they will probably tell me I need EVERYTHING changed! LOL

It could be shocks but could also be other items like tires or alignment, worn tie rods or worn sway bar bushings...

Might try taking in for an alignment and ask for a multi-point inspection and get a shopping list of recommendations of any needed repairs... most multi point inspections are free with other services i.e. alginment...

Even tires that are too low in pressure can make a ride sloppy...

 

EDIT: Are you talking about the front or rear shocks?

Well, if you have the auto ride, you don't have Z71 or Z55, etc. They are all suspension packages. You have Auto Ride suspension package. I would buy a new compressor and 2 new rear shocks. The Bilstein Arnott ones. I did that and my burb rides great! Perfectly level, holds air for over a week sitting. Its nice to have the burb empty and have it level, and have it totally loaded down, and its still level.
