Default 2005 Chassis Lube (U-Joints...)

Hi -

I've recently bought a 2005 Tahoe Z71. This is the first vehicle that I've owned that requires a chassis lube. I picked up the appropriate grease and a gun, and went to it while changing the oil tonight.

I found 4 zerks on each front wheel assembly: upper and lower ball joints, and inner and outer tierod. Are there any other up front?

The rear drive shaft had one on each U-Joint, but I couldn't access them with my gun. Do I need a special attachment to get to these? A flex hose attachment? What is the proper way to rotate the driveshaft to access these ports? Jack up the rear and and put the tranny in netural? Do the factory u-joints require lube, or are these aftermarket?

Should the front drive shaft u-joints require lube? I couldn't find any zerks.

Welcome to the forum. You will probably need a needle fitting for your grease gun to do the U-joints. I suspect that they are aftermarket cuz I can't remember the last GM car or truck that had zerks.

Would that be the reason that the front drive shaft has no zerks?

What is the proper way to rotate the driveshaft when the car is being worked on? Assuming all 4 wheels off the ground...

Probably. The NBS has CV joints.

I'd just put tranny in neutral and rotate the driveshaft.

So I found the Idler Arm ones. I have no idea where the Pitman arm zerk is, or what/where the Pitman Arm is for that matter. Any pictures, description, etc. you could give me to point me in the right direction?

I also tried the u-joints on the rear drive shaft again with flex hose on my grease gun, and I still couldn't get the fitting over the zerk. Any one have any other ideas?
