FINALLY!!!!

They finally figured out my coolant odor problem. It only took 3.5 years and 5 trips to two different dealships. []

The freeze plug in the block is leaking and they will replace it.

Now if they could just figure out the other 37 problems with this vehicle.

 

The dealer was nice enough to replace my belts again even though they are now out of warranty. That makes 4 times in 20k miles.

 

Just to add to the laundry list of things gone wrong with my POS Chevrolet Suburban, now the oil pressure gauge is dead.

 

ummm instead of bringing up a 2+ year old thread to complain - why have you not sold the thing and moved on?

 

I do understand the problems that you are having! But what you have to understand is that this kind of a situation is quite often limited to a small number of people. Don't get me wrong, I have had issues with my chevy vehicles, both big and small, but I love them all the same!

In fact, we had to replace several expensive parts in our '05 Equinox about three years ago. Obviously, that was a huge problem, and at that point we had to decide if it was really worth doing. We ended up going for it, and the Equinox continued to serve us well for awhile longer. Eventually, we traded it in on something newer.

The point is, problems do occur, and some people have more then others. However, I am not going to hate a brand because of it.

As ousig2408 stated, if I were you, I would have traded that in during the 6 years you have had it, and got something newer, or of the same year, as long as it was a better vehicle. I would NOT have continued to put up with the consistent problems. And I would NOT continue to complain about something that I have very little control over. Things happen, and we move on.

I am not trying to sound mean. I am just stating my opinion on the matter. If it is all the same, Good Luck!!

 

Just getting the word out to anyone who's interested in buying Chevy products on what they get to look forward to.

BTW, a few months ago, OEM battery toast again and left my wife stranded several times so switched to my 3rd battery in the vehicle in 50k miles. This time an aftermarket battery since the OEM battery seems only good for 2 years.

 

An engine at 170,000? What was the deal? I'm at 306,000 in my '94 Accord now and have maybe put $1000 into repairs since the day I got it. Brakes, clutch, timing belts, starter, that's it. Never once broke down.

 

I would not ever compare Honda and Chevy reliability until maybe just recently...as much as I like our Tahoe I don't think after 177000 miles and 12 years it will have only had the starter replaced like my 99 Acura TL. there is a full page of stuff that has been replaced already on the Tahoe; luckly under warranty or recalls. sure with my Acura the normal wear and tear stuff has been replaced but everything else works good as new, navigation, AC, power/heated seats, power/heated mirrors, every light bulb, original power steering AND brake fluid even...heck I am even using the original HID bulbs and ballasts!

but still dont come on a forum like this to bash your Chevy for basically minor issues and expect to get much support. It honestly sounds like the 1st few dealers/repair shops you went to had 0 clue.

It is a cost of owning a big heavy duty machine, not as much of an issue with a small very light duty car.

for the squeaky belt, you need to replace the belt and also clean all the pulleys with brake cleaner. this will eliminate the squeaks.

 

I've been considering putting an aftermarket one on myself, thinking the OEM one may just be crap. Any recommendations on an aftermarket one. I'd think Goodyear, but after the experience I had with their Gatorback belts, I'm a little hesitant.
