Default 2005 Suburban 180K miles - what major repairs are in its future?

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum and hoping you all can help me. If there's a search term I should use or a different part of the forum where I should post this, please let me know.

I have a 2005 Chevy Suburban 1500 LT 4WD with close to 180K miles on it. My late husband and I purchased the car in 2017 at 142K. As even today's used cars seem quite expensive to me, I'm trying to figure out whether to keep it and fix it (money to mechanics) or not (money to the bank). I've talked to some folks who've said they have been running their Burbs for 200K or 300K miles. I'm looking for some input on:

1. How many miles should I expect mine to last? (knowing that it probably depends on past maintenance and treatment - we've changed the oil religiously)

2. What kind of major repairs should I expect? (for example, engine internals, timing belt, transmission, 4WD transfer case, brakes, front end, suspension, emissions)

I've already had the fuel pump replaced.

Repairs I have to get done now:

1. The check engine light just came on a few days ago. Code P0332 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Bank 2. The car isn't knocking at the moment, but my understanding is that this can ruin the engine if it's not fixed. Also, my understanding is that the intake manifold has to be taken off to replace the sensor and you might as well replace both sensors and the harness while the manifold is off.

2. I need to get the brakes inspected. They don't make any noise and I'm not having any problems but I was told last year they might need some work soon. Since Covid I've put way fewer miles on the car than normal, but time is always marching on.

Repairs I'm trying to decide about:

1. There is rust around the bottom of the body and the rocker panels need to be replaced. I got an estimate of $2500 to have that work done. I'm trying to determine whether to get it done.

2. The front A/C lines are shot, the compressor is probably good. In the north country I don't need this often, but it would be nice to have.

3. There are some other nuisance items that I've figured out workarounds to or am living without. Intermittent speedometer (probably bad stepper motor, using GPS instead), intermittent bad right front turn signal, leaking windshield washer reservoir (been living without), tire pressure monitor error (why do we need them anyway?). Sometimes the 4WD service light comes on but only when there's snow packed in the wheel wells and underneath the car. It goes out when the snow gets cleared out and I haven't had any problems with it otherwise.

If you have any thoughts, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Barnum2
