Default 2005 Suburban 2wd to 4wd Conversion

Ok, First of I want to say to all the people out there that are going to say sell it and buy a 4x4. Thanks can't do that as I won't get enough to buy another suburban in 4x4 and funds are what they are.

So, I have a 2005 Suburban Z71 fully loaded with everything except the 4x4. I bought it used and never needed the 4x4 until now. I am military and leaving for Alaska in the summe and need 4x4 there. I need all the help from you the forum to help me do this conversion. I know I need front differential with axles, tranfer case, transmission, and what else? Any help suggestions, or parts are welcomed. I am station out at edwards afb, ca and would love to get this done here in the next 2 months. Thanks in advance.

Also, my buddy has a 700R4 that is 4x4. I know it is older and not computer controlled would this be possible with say a flash to the computer to delete the traction control and computer controls of the tranny or not? Thanks

From what I understand, and a financial point if view. Your going to spend the same if not more on parts than selling and buying a 4x4. I know its not what you want to hear. But calculate what its gonna cost you, not including any issues/problems you're going to have along the way.

x2. your going to spend far more to convert than to trade off for 4x4... Unless you've got a really good junk yard hook up...

If you have a donor. I don't see why not. You should be able to take all the parts and bolt them on. Then run the wiring and controls

Keep in mind that the front and rear axel ratios MUST be the same, and, the tire diameters as well.

Doesn't z71 mean it had 4x4 already?
