2005 Tahoe oil guage
Hello & Happy New Year!
Hoping to get some insite here. Just bought a 2005 Tahoe on December 29th. The oil had just been changed (by the Chevy dealership) and the percentage reading had been reset and reads 99% and the guage was working as it should until last night. At first it wouldn't move then this morning it moved all the way to the right, past the 80 mark and stopped at the oil icon. Any idea what could cause this?
I am taking it back in the morning but wanted to see what you guys thought also. Thanks in advance.

Might check to ensure they didn't accidental knock the sensor lead off the sensor. Just seems funny that it would do this as soon as they changed the oil.

The dealership said the guage is bad and the whole dash cluster needs to be replaced and it will cost $300! Does this sound like a rip-off, we were told the guage just can't be replaced, true?

That sounds about right and actually sounds pretty reasonable (sorta)
If you remove the instrument panel yourself you can search the web for places that will will turnkey repair it or you send it in and they fix it and send it back to you.
Having the dealer do it, you have the ability to take it back to them if it should give you trouble.
You can also check Ebay for refurbished panels also, they may also want the defective in return...

Thanks Jeff.
I think it's in the best intrest of the Tahoe to let the dealership make the repairs (safer that way) like you said, if anything goes wrong I can take it back.

That's great! You must either have a good relationship w/ your dealer service dept. or there was some kind of bulletin out on it.
Thanks for the feedback.
