2007 Suburban starter doesn't disengage
Got my first Suburban about 15 months back. As it turned out the day after I got it home it started making rumbling noises deep in engine. Took it to my mechanic and he immediately spotted that the head gaskets had been changed so we put a Jasper engine in and it has been fabulous. Have put 15K on it in 15 months.
Arrived in Pigeon Forge, Tenn Sunday for vacation, checked in walked back got in and cranked it up and started did not want to disengage. Took it to Chevy dealer Monday morning, they told me to come back Tuesday morning and I got it cranked and got it back. They checked it out and indicated solenoid was bad. Put on rebuilt and it gave off a terrible sound so it was pulled off and another obtained and put on and I left after 7 hours at dealer waiting. Shut it off at grocery store, came back and new starter did not want to disengage.
Yesterday morning started it and wanted to stay engaged so went back to dealer in afternoon and was told to come back today.. On the way back to place we are staying stopped at grocery store. Engaged started ten times, it hung in forward position 6 times and I had to bump start it so to speak so I am going back this morning if I can get it cranked.
I called two top mechanic friends at home and they both said it sounded like solenoid was sticking.
So first new started gave problems, two hours later the second one did what the original did. I am of the opinion first time was a chance incident but two in a row is a pattern.
Just wondering if anybody else experienced such?

Well they replaced the starter& solenoid and now it is totally different. I thought it was sticking again and went back and the service guy explained that it is started in two phases. 1. the key is engaged and soon as it starts to turn let go of the key and it will turn a few seconds without starting and quit. Then you engage the key/start the second time and it starts immediately.
Anybody got any idea of why this is like this?
I had read the owners manual and it does not say that and I was told there are several odd things they don't tell us in owner's manuals. When I get home I am going to get another starter at Autozone and store it in and that will insure I never need another starter ! ! ! !
