Default 2007 Suburban Steering Wheel Chipping

Ok, I admit to being picky. We purchased a 2007 Suburban with 17K miles in February and so far all has been great!

The only issue has nothing to do with the car as much as my wife's rings.

When she drives she rests her hands at 9:00 and 3:00 on the steering wheel right above the controls on either side and the rings on her left hand have worn away the finish on the plastic.

If I rub my finger on the worn spot (which is smooth) it feels as if the original finish around it is rubbery and it begins chipping/flaking further if I rub it (so naturally I don't).

This really bugs me due to my OCD nature. Does anyone have any ideas how I can repair this?

buy new ones and replace. from what I can tell every single one made with the "rubber" finish ends up like this. if you notice they now have the silver looking trim like around the vents there instead of the rubber finish. I personally like the black rubber look more but it does look crappy all flaking off like you describe.
it looks like a very easy DIY replace and you can get the trim parts from many places including the dealer of course. sorry to link to "another" site like this one but very good instructions. you can get the rubber ones again (will have the same issue), silver ones or the brushed looking type.

also you got a 2007 with only 17k miles??? wow. I was happy when I found ours 1st of last year with 46k miles. I saw so many with 80+k miles

I think you are probably right, I located a replacement steering wheel that looks pretty good. Might be a nice Xmas present from me to me....

I have a 2007 Silverado with the same steering wheel problem. Where can I find the silver replacement parts?

My 07 started peeling off in big piece and I noticed it was just a rubber coating over black plastic. So when mine started to really wear, I pulled all of the rubber off and it looks good with just the black plastic, looks like it was meant to just be that way. It doesnt have the rubber feel or look, but if you dont want to swap over to the silver overlays and want black, just peel off the rubber.
