Default 2007 Tahoe ABS Computer Controller

Hi all, I have a 4WD hoe in which the ABS light is on. I checked for 12V at the ABS sensors and there is no 12V there. Could be a lot of things. I have not a code reader. I have no desire to take it to a garage since it'll be automatic replace the computer $2000. So i'm asking if anyone knows what else would cause the 12V not to be present? I checked all the sensors, none are shorted and none of the lines going back to the controller are shorted either. I do get like 80 ohms measuring from the ABS rear connectors to ground. When I disconnect the ABS computer connector, it reads open circuit. Which lead me to think there was possibly a problem in the controller/computer. Should I take that computer off and have a look inside?

the ecm may shut off the 12volt supply when a fault is present. Get the codes read and post them here.

Default How get codes?

Hi, thanks for the reply, is there any way to get those codes without going to the garage? I have a ODBII scanner but it doesn't show the EBCM codes. One time you could do some things to get the vehicle to flash the code to you via the ABS dash light, is this still possible?

Default Thanks again, relatively inexpensive analizer?

Guys, what's a good relatively inexpensive analyzer? One that can read the ABS codes as well as do an automatic bleed if I have to change the pump? I'm sure a unit that can do that will also do other things I may need down the road...I'm thinking a PC based one perhaps with a USB connection or something like that?

they have the best laptop based diagnostic software that will do everything you need and more. you would need a 3000 scan tool to do what this 300 software can do.

thanks again guys. I checked out the autoenginuity scanner, looks good (of course). It'll cost me about $500 for the scan tool and the GM option which will then do the ABS and automated bleed...a bit expensive...the amazon one was nice, can read the codes for $60 might be worth it. But I'll be wasting $$ if the codes come back saying I need a new pump since i'll need to do the automatic bleed... Decisions decisions...

Any other options? Any hand held tools that are dedicated to ABS bleed? In any case with the rediculus labour rates and the general rip off at the GM dealership it'll still be worth $500. I expect them to charge me about $2500 to change out the ABS controller+pump. p.s. I live in CANADA, we get ripped off by car dealerships regularly...I paid $1200 to have my BCM replaced...when I asked them for the one they took out, they said if they showed it to me they might not give me the core credit...what a joke. I believe they only re-flashed it....said it took 6 hours to diagnose..

So Im thinking that if the pump is bad and the Tech2 tool is needed, you should still be able to replace the pump yourself, bleed the brakes as normal and worst case take it in for the hours worth of tech2 time to bleed the pump right?
The brakes may not work 100% but they should work well enough to get you in to the dealer....

Default good strategy

I like that strategy, but you know the garage here will probably charge me $150 to bleed the brakes and $120 for the scan...that's 1/2 the friggin cost.. I'll let you all know how it turns out...with pictures.. PS I tried to take the computer off the pump unit...not good, the torx bolts were corroded and seized into the aluminum block and broke off f&%k. Anyways, inside it all looked good! Couldnt' get the computer side cover off the EBCM, it seemed gluded on or something, but the side with all the solenoid coils looked good... I put it back on with the 2 screws that didn't break, along with a good all around seal of JB weld! WTF right? No other way, the broken studs would not come out...the only other way is to replace the entire unit. Picture attached...no worries, JB weld is awsome, the seal is good. Next time though the entire unit needs to be replaced...ABS light is still on ofcourse, still no 12V at the sensors.
