Just a general observation.

 

Three quick things...

Going back and forth over crappy factory radio? not worth it really?

What might be worth it is to force GM to allow customers to chose to delete the factory HU's and xm? Why be forced to pay for the garbage only to remove it?

The factory radio I removed (which I thought was a denso) has a delphi/delco label right on the top. Are there denso's being used in any of the '07s?

 

The navigation units are Denso, the CD-DVD (Dual play) unit is a Panasonic and the CD players are Delco on the 2007 GMT900 vehicles.

And don't forget the true meaning of all public forums which is; "to go back and forth". After all, if you're not going back and forth then there wouldn't be much to read on this here forum, would there?

 

Maybe I can add a little something here, being both a "surround sound" enthusiast (with my home system) and a soon to be ex-owner of a Cadillac STS with the Bose DSP/5.1 surround sound system.

Let me start off by saying that GM's surround sound system (Bose) that they use in all of their vehicles is garbage...not because it sounds bad, but because it just doesn't work. I've probably got $500 worth of 5.1 disks (DVD-A) and the GM implementation just doesn't allow them to work in surround mode (although DVD-Video disks do seem to work in 5.1 surround mode). This issue, as well as many others (power failures, bluetooth inoperability, Voice recognition inoperability, etc) , made me file lemon law against Cadillac. We came to an agreement that Cadillac would buy back my STS and return the amount of money, fees, etc I paid for it as long as I purchased another GM vehicle of similar value.

That caused me to look at the Tahoe. I've not pulled the trigger on one yet, but probably will in the next week or so. As a side note, the NAV system and the Bose system in the '07 Tahoe is a generation AHEAD of what they put in the current STS.

Regarding the amps in the Tahoe....they are digital amps. Bose hasn't used analog amps for quite some time. All the amps they use in their automotive applications are digital amps. Digital amps are smaller and dissipate less heat than similarly powered analog amps.

DSP modes....if you don't have 5.1 capability (which as I mentioned, doesn't work worth a damn the way GM implements it), then the other DSP modes (center point) are SIMULATED surround sound. Believe me, regular 2-channel stereo sounds worlds better than these simulated surround DSP modes. So, you aren't really missing anything soundwise with the alleged DSP modes.

GM covers their *** when it comes to what features are offered/printed in the manuals. They make the disclaimer that they exclusively hold the rights to make changes any time they want. And, those changes may not be reflected in their MSRP stickers, printed materials, manuals, brochures, etc. This was the bone of contention they made when I filed with the BBB for lemon law proceedings.

Bottom line.....yes, Chevy did say that there should be some sort of DSP processing in the Tahoe Bose system. But, you aren't missing anything by not having them.

 

In reference to "digital" and "analog" Bose amps: It is not in regards to the signal amplification (processing) done internally by the amp.

It is in reference to the low-level analog inputs utilized on the Tahoe Bose amp and the low-level digital input that the Denali and Escalade incorporate. In regards to implementing 5.1 surround sound in the small confining space of the cabin of a car………..need I say any more? Other than GM and Bose do a decent job at the nearly impossible.

It also amazes me how a customer (who claims that GM has bent over backwards to take care of) will go online and continue to bash……….hmmm……..makes me wonder sometimes if there's any pleasing some people.

 

ZX...thanks for the clarification. It appeared on some of the posts where people were stating the Bose/Tahoe systems wasn't using digital amplification. They do.

Regarding 5.1 surround sound, I've also got an Acura TL. The 5.1 surround sound system in that car is stunning....and it worked correctly (as opposed to Cadillac's implementation).

Played a bit with the NAV system in the '07 Tahoe during a test drive last night. It is worlds better than what they put in the current interation of the Cadillac STS.

I stand by my post in stating that the "simulated surround" of some other Bose systems (center point) and their DSP modes aren't worth much, if anything. Sound from regular 2-channel Bose system (as the one in the Tahoe) is worlds better, sound-wise.

I don't know if you were referring to me with regards to bashing. I have not bashed the Tahoe, nor Chevrolet. I have bashed Cadillac in another forum, however. Personally, I'm going to pull the trigger on an '07 Tahoe LTZ. I just need to find the right color combo (preferably dark blue with black/cashmere interior).

 

I just took delivery of a new LTZ with NAV last week.

I drove it to my stereo installer (to installa passport SRX) and here are his observations:
[ul][*]Sound is really low quality - DSP or not, it does not sound half as good as a $200 Alpine head unit with 4 average speakers. I tend to believe him as the sound in my other cars (BMW with DSP and Acura MDX) is several levels above in all aspects.[*]These Bose speakers are very low grade OEM units that will need to be replaced to actually get some improvement on this system, if left stock. He opened some panels and took a look at them - even took one off to look at it..[*]The car does not play in surround when a DVD plays - it plays stereo only. No 5.1, no DTS (both logos printed on the unit). I also read the bitof the web site and this is considered false advertising only if it is listed in the bill of sale or specifications sheet from the dealership (at least in my state).[/ul]
If you purchased this car for sound quality, you are in for a couple grands of upgrades. The original unit canactually be used with new good amps and good speakers. Too bad the sound quality from XM is so mediocre (they use a lot of compression).

I tried the systems in the Denali and Escalade and they do sound significantly better - no question about it. All we need now is a genious to unlock/reprogram what I suspect is essentially the same head unit and upgrade some speakers throughout the car...

 

Hey everyone, just have a question for you all. Anyone else out there with anLT2 and the Nav system notice that their sticker has the $495 charge for the bose speakers even though the website and brochure clearly states that the bose is included with the Navigation System?

Just trying to see if I am the only one that was charged extra or if they made a habit of adding the extra $495 when they should not have. Please reply to me.

You did not get double charged. The LT2 does not come standard with the Bose Package (UQA). The NAV option requires package UQA (which is the bose system) and thus the charge for the Bose. The Brochure may state the NAV has the Bose System because it cannot be ordered without it. You get a A for effort. Seriously, you got a nice vehicle with an option that normally comes on a more expensive trim level-enjoy it.

 

well i also was not impresed by the bose system so a changesd so i had a premier 780 installed today and it was a world of difference whta the factiry speakers sound like now. i also added two premier tsw3000 with a DA2000 AMP,very satified excpet for the 150 dlls for the harness.dammm. i also adde the hids already just to up date you guys.
