2007 Tahoe randomly locks

Just wondering what you would be able to figure out about that issue just by the vin number. And the reason I don't bring it to the dealer for the problem is because they probably would not be able to duplicat the problem as always and it does not happen often enough so I would be wasting my time . Randomly Locking 2010 Suburban
My son recently purchased a 2010 Chevy Suburban to haul their 7 kids in. I do most of the driving them around. Getting them to & from schools, ballet, martial arts lessons, etc.
The Suburban randomly locks itself. I've been locked out in the cold with kids in tow twice in 30 days.
I try to carry an extra key with me all the time now. Today I grabbed a different jacket and didn't have the spare key. So of course it locked me out again today.
Hauling 7 kids to & from schools I'm always helping them gather their stuff or unbuckle seat belts when we stop. The key at times gets set down while I help kids with seat belts, etc., someone shuts the door....and then you hear the dreaded random LOCKING of the doors!
I'm incredibly frustrated with this vehicle.
I'll suggest to my son that he disconnect the battery.
We live in an area with brutally cold temps in the winter. This randomly locking Suburban is potentially a serious hazard to me and the grandkids!

7 kids...dont know if I can say that is a good thing or not! 
what I have found is
1) it is very easy to hit the lock on the top of the door panel if you are in a hurry when you get out of the truck - therefore it will lock all doors once they are all closed.
2) if you get out (with the doors unlocked) go to get the kids out and accidently hit the lock button on the remote, I think it will make a beep noise but if you dont notice and close the doors it will lock the doors after that. so say you hit the button and leave the keys in the truck then you will be SOL.
so basically you have to be carefull to keep your keys on you or just make sure no one hits the lock buttons on the door. If you look through the DIC menus there probably is some options on how the doors lock/unlock. there may be a way to help avoid a situation
just need to learn WHY it locks. but of course that is not the easiest when you have 7 kids to take around

Thanks for the suggestions as to the root of my problems with the randomly locking 2010 Suburban.
I've tried to recreate the random locking of the doors by bumping the door panel lock button and the fob button & so far have been unable to cause the doors to inadvertently lock. It's been a while since I've tried so next week when I'm hauling kids around I'll try harder to purposely recreate what ever might be happening to cause the vehicle (I've dubbed HAL) to lock us out!
The most recent time we were locked out the key was in the ignition still (I likely pulled it out slightly so the bells didn't sound while the doors were open) so I don't believe I could have bumped the lock button on the key fob. We were just briefly doing some kid rearranging and leaving immediately for 3 girls ballet class....which we ended up missing.
PS it's a newly combined family of 7 kids

Also might try disconnecting the vehicle battery for about 10-20 minutes.
As you learned, leaving the keys in the ignition (especially pulled out to silence the chime) is not a good idea. I learned that the hard way in my younger years going to nite school. Now if I pull the keys, I drop them in my lap. That way if I forget, they fall on the ground when I get out.

Had a similar problem when my daughter, who's used to driving a Honda Civic, used my Hoe. When i investigated, guess what I found. She leaned on the lock button on the armrest when she was getting out. her thumb hit the button on her way in when she was pulling the door closed.

Has anyone found a solution to this? It's been happening for the last few weeks and we decided to get onstar just in case. (maybe its a way for Chevy to sell Onstar...) it's happened too many times recently for it to be hitting the lock button on the fob accidentally. Most of the time it's about 5 minutes after you got out of the car and you hear it lock then the horn honks. it's like someone hit the fob twice. sometimes the keys are in your hand and sometimes they are in the middle console. I haven't tried the battery thing yet and i will but i wanted to know if someone had figured out why it would be doing this. Thanks!!

cliq20 Welcome to the forum... might also try opening up the fob and cleaning it... I replaced the button pad on my fob the other day ( only because it was worn) and noticed that it had a lot of crud build up under the fob portion and between the fob case and rubber pad...

i thought about that also. right now i will do that and disconnect the battery. i'm sure there's a lot of dirt in there. it's strange that quite a few people have had this same problem and that it would be hitting the button twice (and if it was still engaged because of dirt that it wouldn't keep honking).
