I substituted by using adjustable pliers (that kept slipping the adjustment) and a 10mm socket by hand once it was loose enough.
There's a decent amount of locktite on the bolt, so it took some force.
I will suggest a headlamp to give a little extra light without holding a flashlight in your teeth (yea, I tried that first).
Actual work time (minus unsuccessful tool location) was about 5-10minutes. Took my beastly Burb around the neighborhood and had working cruise for the first time in nearly 4 years!
If your cruise is out, skip the dealership & DIY!

Good to hear!, thanks for taking the time to follow up on the fix working for you

My cruise control works intermittently. If it, all of a sudden, stops working, I gently kick the left side of the brake pedal, and it works again. Any ideas what the actual problem could be?

Question 08 Tahoe Intermittent Cruise

I have an '08 Tahoe and am experiencing the same intermittent cruise issue. However I have replaced the brake switch with the correct AC Delco one and now with a Napa one. All three are doing the same thing. However I have found if I tap the brake several times while tapping the set cruise button it will start to work. My local Napa person thought it was the brake switch being I could do that and get it to start to work. Additionally what I believe I've found is the cruise does not work after starting the vehicle, after messing with the brake as i just explained it doesn't fail me after that until I shut the vehicle off again. I sure could use all your thoughts on this so I can get to the bottom of the issue. Also researched the fuse to look at being there were no fuses labeled for cruise, I did find in the under hood fuse box number 43 fuse Misc/IGN. Also appears good. This is my wife's vehicle so you can imagine my wanting to fix this. She did her own research and thought it to be the cruise switch on the steering wheel. Although that is also not a super expensive part and I can replace it myself I'm trying not to be a total parts changer and find the actual root of the problem.

It's a sensor also and not just a on/off switch and needs to be calibrated / adjusted correctly.

Scan tool that has that function. Should have had all 4 families of the system codes read anyway as that's the way of the modern vehicle today.
Sometimes you can get lucky by moving it slightly and testing repeatedly though.
