Default 2008 Suburban Lifter click question 6.0 125K miles

Hey all,

Great forum hope you can help with a question. I have used the search function and am still a bit puzzled. I am looking at a 2008 Suburban 125000 miles and the 6.0 engine. Looks to be in pretty good shape looks like a lot of highway miles. Other than rock chips on the front clip and such body looks to be in great shape. One owner and I am buying it from the dealer who sold it.

They are pulling maint records for me and we will have a look at the carfax tomorrow.

The engine has a clicking noise that is there sometimes and not other times. I got it warmed up and drove it 10 miles or so and shut it off. When I started it back up it does it a little irregularly.

It doesn't seem to go away just idling but during driving there are no codes and it does not seem to miss at all.

I have read the Bulletins about the lifters and the dealer is taking a look at it as well. Just wondering if this is something I should run from? Or drive it and put some money aside for repairs later. If there is a problem with a collapsed lifter
Does a guy need to remove the intake and replace them all?

It looks like lifters are available or am I making a big deal over nothing. If a lifter collapses is it a limp home thing or catastrophic failure. I also see that a new engine long block is around $4000, plus labor and such. we have all the equipment to do something like that.

Any feed back is appreciated. I did read pages of material on this subject and other than people just being annoyed with the clicking noise didn't read much about engine destruction.

Thank You

Just a thought.... look at the exhaust manifold bolts. Esecially the rear ones. they have a nasty habit of breaking off and allowing the exhaust to leak causing a ticking sound similiar to a lifter? Aluminum head and cast iron expand/contract at different rates....
