Money matters, especially to a company that had to be bailed out because it faced bankruptcy. Since most folks may not get the extended warranty, such repairs fall on them. A plus for dealers as they make more money. For those that have a warranty, string them along until they don't. The only good thing about BMW motorcycles is that IF you have a repair done at a dealer, it's warrantied for two years parts and labor and if it fails within that, it gets repaired on their dime and the warranty period resets. GM probably doesn't do that. That said, the genesis for this badly implemented technology is gas mileage and from what I have read, they use the same technology in the 2014 trucks and boast even higher gas mileage. Zie mir gezunt. In other words, good luck.

I will be getting it into the shop and I won't be taking a $3000 dealer loyalty check. Seems that is the rage. I have a friend with a BMW bike. It's been fixed for bad crank seals so many times the wiring harness got screwed up as the bike has to be split in half. BMW's response was an offer of 2500 off a new bike as they would have to replace the engine, which is 9000. He said no way. He's spent double that fixing the POS. Seems manufacturers want to pass on the cost of crappy engineering or manufacture to the consumer.
I pulled my #1 plug as well as the #2... at 82k miles on my 07 mine was not too bad, did have oil on it though... I do not however have any issues burning oil I might add a half quart between oil changes... attached # 1 and #2 spark plugs...

Not a good shot, but this is after I cleaned it. It was packed with carbon between the electrode insulator and the metal body. Not good. Mine chuggs a quart every 2000 or a little less mileage.

I have the same year 1500 as Ponch. 81k on it, just got back from vacation about 300 miles away from home. Engine light comes on, I hit onstar to diagnose, onstar runs check and says there is an oil pressure issue, oil gauge flexs between 15-20, I call my local dealer (I knew where the dealer was as I was pricing a camaro convertible - really disappointed in my surburan and will most likely not buy GM again) and ask if I should bring to my a dealer in vacation area as I'm coming home in 2 days. We had the same issue back in April and the oil pressor sensor was replaced. He says I should have no issue with it as it's not just not reading the pressure correctly because of the sensor. I start to hear some engine noise, pull into a gas station and check my oil. Oil was extremely low, (no low oil indicator?) put two quarts in and sound disappears instantly, pressure gauge stablizes. check engine light goes off about two hours later. Really upset with this nonsense, I have my gm dealer change the oil on a regular basis, I pay extra for the synthetic....what really annoys me is the the onstar emails that I get that list my oil life, these seem to be totally bogus. overall like Ponch really do not think I would buy another gm. It's burning oil, no smoke or any leaks in the garage.

Have you don't a computer scan? If not, take it to an Autozone or O'Reilly's and have them scan the computer and see what codes are there. I have oil consumption through #1 piston. Blowing a quart every 2000 miles through 1 cylinder is a bit much. That said, I went to make an appointment, but I couldn't get the car there and I haven't rescheduled. My advice is to keep on top of checking your oil. When mine first started burning, I thought may be the idiot at the dealer put 5 quarts in instead of 6 quarts when I had the oil changed there, which isn't all the time and when I saw it was sucking it down after I did, I had to look into it.

The sad thing is that GM continues to use the AFM on the new redesigned trucks. That's doubling down of stupid, IMO. Never again.

I changed this with less than 3000 miles. I started to feel a miss. Notice the oil up the threads. Not as bad as the last plug which had less than 10K on it, but it's heading in the same direction. The engine took 1.75 quarts after 3000 miles. That's through one piston. Thank you Chevrolet.

Default 09 Suburban burning oil

I have the same problem with my 09 Suburban 1500 burning oil. I'm losing about 2.5qts every 5k miles. I can't say I have any other issues with the truck, but this oil thing really concerns me. How do we get Chevy to address it?

If your vehicle is under warranty, you have to go to the dealer and reference TSB #10-06-01-008B so they won't give you a BS line they all do that or it's an acceptable amount. Chances are it's burning that through only 1 or 2 cylinders. I have to change plug 1 every 7-10k miles. I have until May…So either I get them to fess up or trade it/sell it to a GM true believer than can have the problem that no one at GM wants to admit is one…Not to pile on, but the new chevy trucks already have an issue with AFM and I think the trucks catch fire. Nothing like thought out and tested technology. Anyway, they'll want to do an oil change and monitor the consumption and see if it's within their acceptable standards. The thing is, a quart every 2000 isn't the end of the world if all 8 are burning it, but with this problem it's less than 8 and less than 4 most of the time.

Well, an update. I finally took the Suburban to the dealer. I told them the symptoms and showed them the spark plugs and said I thought it was an oil consumption that is covered under TSB 10-06-01-008D. They had a mechanic look at it and it will be fixed under the extended powertrain warranty. The fix is a new valve cover with revised PCV baffle, a baffle installed in the oil pan and decarbonizing the offending cylinder. Hopefully this will be done right and I won't have to replace spark plugs every 8K miles on #1 cylinder. I was happy that the dealer didn't give me a hard time or push it off as they all do that. Props to Van Chevrolet for taking care of it. It should be done on Monday and I will let you all know how it turns out.
