Angry 2009 Suburban leather separating on front seats

I have a 2009 Suburban with full leather seats in the front. On the back of the driver and front passenger seats, where the map/paper holder plastic thingy is, the leather is separating from the plastic hold on both sides of the holder - on both seats - leaving large, gross, gaping holes into the back of the seat. I bought the vehicle brand new and it has zero abuse and when we sit in the front seats, there is no added tension on the leather in this area - you can tell by feeling the area when someone sits down. So, this is a manufacturing defect. What do you guys suggest and do you have ANY experience with this happening on a Tahoe or Suburban or maybe any other full-size truck with leather seats from GM?

It looks like crap and I didn't pay 50+G's for a loaded Suburban to have the leather start to flake out before the base warranty 3/36 is even up.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

First the only part of the seat that's leather is the seating surfaces. The rest is the hide of the extinct nauga. IOW vinyl.

Since it's still under warranty, I'd take it up w/ your dealer.

LOL, GM 'quality' strikes again...

perhaps if they spent a few less million on super bowl ads they could build a car that doesn't fall apart.

My, bought new 09 Tahoe:
Dealer trips: 20+
GPS Voice Commands Not Working: BBB: $940 check
BlueTooth not working 100% $300
20+ trips to dealer: $500 check.
Sqeaks, rattles, rear windows when 1/2 down rattle SO bad over bumps I feel like it's going to fall apart.

My wife's Mazda was 1/4 the price and 10x the quality in fit, finish, and has been to the dealer ONCE in 98,000 miles.

So, so far, GM has paid me $1,740.00 because, hopefully, my tax money helps their wallets run deep.

Make no mistake, I don't want money for nothing from anyone. These are defects in my vehicle GM can not fix, they have tried. Replacing the Tahoe with a Land Cruiser as soon as my budget allows.

I actually asked for a 1 year 10,000 mile longer warranty vs the $500 check. They have so little faith in their crap they wouldn't do it. I said, hey if you built something worth a damn, you will be out $0.00. That saves you $500!

Ahh the good ole days of hunting and clubbing nauga's as they emerged from their dens... if I recall it followed snipe season in the fall....

Who knew?

I thought you had to kill them or the hide would go bad.

Default Vinyl??? Gross

First, thanks a bunch for the quick responses. I would have never guessed that they would get the color of vinyl and the leather to match perfectly.

Does anyone know if it is something that is glued to the rear compartment or is it supposed to clamped or sewn to the compartment somehow? or am I just way off.

I am trying to avoid taking it in and having the dealer just glue it and call it good. It will take one summer (I am in phoenix) and the glue would crack and warranty will be out. Would I be better off pushing for seat replacement?

Oh I would for sure take it in... you could possibly end up with brand new seats installed... On warranty repairs you get a brand new 12/12 warranty on the repaired item as I understand it...
