What should be average running transmission temp and then what would be towing say around 3000lbs? I just cannot find this answer anywhere..

Welcome to the forum.

Depends on ambient temp. and level or hilly roads.

Since I was curious about this as well I found this http://www.snowgoer.com/output.cfm?id=2028187

I've also read that auto transmission fluid (for the ford 6-speed) breaks down at 240°F

Last summer towing my 3500# boat from Phoenix to Tahoe by way of Sequoia NP and Yosemite (a lot of mtn driving) with my 09 Burb I saw temperatures into the 240's a couple of times so I backed off. In each of these events I also saw the water temperature start to climb. This was in early August. I tried asking the GM parts guys if the 4-speed auxiliary cooler kit would fit but nobody could say "yes" so I haven't added an auxiliary cooler yet.

The six speed one should fit.

Last time I checked at the dealer there wasn't a six-speed transmission cooler kit but that was a couple of months ago. I'll check again, since boating season is right around the corner here in sunny Arizona I'd like to add the cooler.

Since it was an option, you might have to buy the parts separately then.

I'm pretty sure my burb came with the trailering package which included a transmission cooler. I bet it is available, sorry I don't have part numbers.

I wish boating season was just around the corner up here in Michigan. I have to wait for May.
