Hello I have an issue with my suburban. My transmission is slipping. It will run just fine for about 5 min and then it won't catch any gear it just revs when I hit the gas. I tried putting it in manual no joy, 4x4 no joy. I turn it off and turn it back on and it will work again for a few minutes then slips again is this the solenoids going bad or is it the transmission that's toast. Thank you in advance.

Miles on the vehicle please?
You can check the transmission fluid level and condition. A mechanic with a professional tool and run diagnostics on the transmission. That's about all you can do.
An 11yo transmission is probably toast though. Average lifetime is about 125k. Less if it was never maintained.

Hello and thank you for the reply. It has 168k miles on it so I guess it might be toast. I just think it's crazy that it will drive for a few miles then just give out.

You might be able to squeeze a few more months out of it with some transmission additive (Lucas, etc.). But I would have a plan B ready.
