OK. I still say it's a design flaw, making that wire coil so tight/so strong.

I agree. And when you look at other makes with a similar setup, they usually have a significant group in the cable when the glass is shut. GM just didn't want to spend the extra money for extra inches of cable I guess. Stretching them out as you suggested does work however.
