Tahoe & Suburban The power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.

Default 2020 1st Oil Change

We replaced our '05 Suburban with a '20 Tahoe. Just about 1,000 miles on it now. Mechanic said 1st oil change at 5,000 miles, no need to change earlier. I can remember hearing new motors should have a 1st change sooner, but don't know that that applies to current technology. Your opinions appreciated as always!

not with todays new engines. 6000kilometers is what I would change at. if I had a engine rebuilder bore my used block I would change at 1000 but not required for an oem new motor.
some stories I have heard IS: some engine makers don'5 want it changed to early for what I assume is proper ring seating and special factory additives used for the break in. follow whatever the manual says.

Thanks Tech2, some kind of explanation/science was just what I was looking for.
Our '05 Sub went 290,000 miles relying on the oil life monitor for all changes; never went by mileage, seems like that worked pretty good. Any thoughts on mileage changes vs computer algorithm appreciated.

my 06 pick up (and probably your old sub) olm would be at 0% at 10 000kilometers. I wouldn't go any longer than that. the new trucks with afm and vvt...I wouldn't want any gunk sludging up the small oil passages.
with direct fuel injection in to the cylinder...the manifold is dry and intake valves can be more prone to crud build up. Consider a induction clean periodically.
