Default 454 Suburban SWAP

Hi. im new to this forum but i think you guys know more about chevy then a v8buickcom. i just purchesed a 1979 rear wheel drive suburban with an old 454 eng to be restored and used for other car. i might have some pic's later on, what engine will fit the best? other than the 454 chevy ? i want to replce it with a smaller engine.
the big block 454 is longer so the frame mounts are way out to the front and it, has a 400th trans. so i dont know what to replace it with, the easest and efficient maybe 350 or 305. or disel?

Default RE: 454 Suburban SWAP

Diesel would be cool...but that would require a lot of suspension upgrades with all the extra weihgt.....check on a6.0 from a 3/4 truck, or newer 3/4 burb, try a wrecker...these are the modern day equilavent of the 454........orthe 8.1but you want smaller... a 6.0 will get you prolly a bit betterthen the old 454 as far as gas milage.
