4x4 auto on Dry Pavement
[sm=headbang.gif]How bad is it to drive on 4x4-auto on dry pavement? I sometimes forget toswitch back to 2WDright away (or 40-50 miles) after using4x4-auto and then going on dry pavement.I realize from another post that a light on the dash would be very helpful to see what mode you are on.
Thanks!

Al,
Not bad, however if there is no need to be in 4X4 then it is usually best to just leave it in 2WD mode to reduce wear and tear on the 4WD system and improve fuel economy but you already knew this.
In Auto mode the NP8 transfer case utilizes a torque biasing wet clutch which allows for a variation in speed between the front and back wheels to reduce crow-hop and shudder when turning at low speed for instance, this is not the case when either 4-HI or 4-LOW is selected.
The wet clutch will prevent any damage from happening to the system on dry pavement when in the AUTO mode.

ZX,
Thanks for the info, the owners manual really doesn't give that great of an explanation on how it works.Would like to see someone mod a 4x4 mode light on the dash somewhere though.
