4x4 problem
Hello I am new to the forum. I have bought a 2002 Tahoe that has been sitting for a couple years. Runs fine shifts great however, went down a dirt road and decided to test out the z71… got halfway up a hill and realized that even though the buttons indicated I was in 4x4 I was only in 2 wheel drive. Tried low gear and It definitely went into the low gearing. But still no four wheel drive. So I went to the auto store and bought a new actuator motor for the front axle. No change. The car thinks it is in 4x4 however is is only sending power to the rear axle. Is there anything else besides the transfer case that it could be? Or am I screwed lol?

The front wheels( both of them) were literally doing nothing. Both rear wheels were spinning but none of the front wheels were spinning. Even though I put the car in 4x4 there is no power going to the front wheels.

This problem is best diagnosed with the proper diagnostic equipment. A lot electronics involved.
The NV246 is an “active transfer case” that is computer controlled, has an internal clutch pack and fork to apply the clutches and has 2WD, A4WD, 4WD HI, 4WD Low and neutral positions. Three speed sensors each send an AC-voltage signal. The vehicle-speed sensor informs the powertrain control module (PCM) of the vehicle’s road speed. The PCM forwards this info to the transfer-case shift-control module through a Class 2 serial data bus. The other two speed sensors monitor front and rear output-shaft speeds.
